Been riding my 1965 Super now with rebuilt 150 Sprint engine all parts sourced through Beedspeed and been good to me.

Recently had a coil problem then it cut out on me but put it down to dirty fuel as got it going again wasn't electrical. Anyway re adjusted carb to get home so running a bit fast.

Now have a noise / vibration which is not apparent when reving in neutral but soon as I ride in every gear around the mid range it is a rattly noise as if the flywheel cover is loose but it isnt. i have a local expert who i visited recently with a slow running noise a knock which he said sounded like the big end.

Naturally consulting the bible "The Haynes Manual" it covers noises and vibrations "slap, rattle, knock and rumble" all covered but naturally have alarming requirement to resolve them. If it is the big end a complete rebuild!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it is a rattle little end just remove cylinder head and check little end replace bearings etc.

But first any suggestions on what to check no matter how basic or stupid sounding I may, hope, I have overlooked something. Apart from the noise it goes well starts first time a real joy to ride but don't like the idea of a major seizure killing me.

Yep I'm in France and yep its pissing it down but always not too cold for a ride.

Any helpful tips appreciated

cheers Gus

Funny enough, I have a 71 Sprint Veloce, which also has a rattle noise! I've had people look at it, saying it sounds like 'piston slap' another thought it might be 'cush drive'. So I had the engine striped and rebuilt by a mate, the cush drive springs needed replacing, we also put a new italian crank in, he also ported and matched the malossi 166 head and upgraded the carb to 24mm.
I was pleased as punch with the work carried out for a very good price, I put it back in scoot and started her up.... it runs like a dream, but guess what????? the noise is still there Crying or Very sad

sometimes you just convince yourself there is a problem, especially after tinkering, countless times i've worried myself about strange noises/rattles etc and it's just been paranoia

Dear Chaps

Cheers for the posts as yet not done anymore tinkering as a bit cold but just as had more time on my hands thought if there were any pointers before striping the engine thought this may be something to look for first I'll let you know progress.

Cheers

Simon

Yeah and it's still there after you've stripped and rebuilt it and it's running fine, so there's no problem is there.

could it not be gearbox/clutch related if it doesn't make the noise out of gear?????

Noise is constantly there, in or out of gear, clutch in or out!

I had a rattle on a P200E years ago, that drove me mad.. turned out to be a loose baffle in the exp pipe..

CURE: Run it without a zorst, if you cant hear the rattle, presume its the exhaust, put it back on and ignore it pmsl.. Laughing

It's now all sorted, it was piston slap. Had it rebored to the next oversize and new piston, now runs and sounds lovely. However I've got to run it in Confused
