I'm new to the forum so apologies if some of my problems have graced this site before.
After many years of toiling with the idea of buying a vespa in march I finally acquired my "dream machine", a beautiful gts 125. I found it new in the colour I wanted on the Internet and the dealer seemed v helpful. I was concerned about back up if anything went wrong but given it was new and the support if a warranty/national piaggeo dealer network what could go that wrong......
Cutting a v long story short - the first problem was the fact I failed my mod 2 test twice- both times for riding too slowly. Thinking it must be me at fault I booked an "assessment" with a local training company. They diagnosed the fault in 5 mins -my speedo was running exactly 5 mph too slow/fast depending on which way you look at it !! Essentially when I thought I was riding at 30 I was actually doing 25 and so on.
I duly contacted 2 local dealers who gave it the old "Internet purchase eh?" and promptly told me they were not interested in warranty work. The dealer I bought it from "bikers" in Derbyshire palmed me off with piaggeo albeit he said hexwoukd fix it if I drove it the 125 miles there. Nothing from piaggeo yet.
I re took my test and simply drove 5 mph faster in the meantime and passed - hurray !!
On the way home however it simply cut out and whilst the engine would turn over it wouldn't spark into life. Piaggeo assistance got a none piaggeo dealer to collect it who now can't work on it for fear of breaching the warranty leaving ne with the problem of getting it to a piaggeo dealer who is actually prepared to undertake warranty work.
I live in Cheshire and am at my wits end and seemingly in the middle of some bizarre viscous circle none of which is really my fault - ok I bought via the Internet but people also move so surely piaggeo has a responsibilty to help - don't they??
As said I'm very new to all if this so any advice is much appreciated.[/u]

you should be able to take it to any piaggio dealer for warranty work, I would try another dealer and just don't tell them you bought it of the internet.

If you have any probs contact Cheeky Thomas on here
http://www.gtsownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php

he is a mechanic in a shop in Lowestoft

where are you?

oh and welcome to the forum Wink

the problem with internet shopping is: you dont get 2 meet the dealer in person!
there all so helpfull and every thing seems plain sailing, UNTIL summat like this happens.
i know the dealer you got it off and there quite a new buisness, whilst having a few mates locally that deal wi em they think there service is ok! i even have 1 mate who purchased a new chinese style bag o shit thing for work off em and he had that much shit wi the engine they replaced it with a new motor! GREAT.
but a lot of new set up dealers rely on wot there computer tells em ! NOT on experience,
ive owned scooters for the last 22 yrs and dun work on vespa/lambretta for various well known dealers in the past,
sum of whom have took the credit for my work 2 big them selves up (but thats another story)
now i like 2 think i know a little bout vespas but after going in 2 purchase sum top headstock fork bearings and being given
sum 4 a pitt bike or summat, i knew 100% that these were wrong, only 2 be TOLD by sum snivelling little shit in his early 20s that COMPUTER SAYS NO, and i woz in the wrong.
then upon me commenting on a i quote MINT CONDITION 2nd hand px 125 that i said woz a bit on the cheap side! the reply
i got from the dealer woz: WELL FUKCING BUY IT THEN, so ive never been back again, BUT never the less reports from local lads say that these blokes are very helpfull, the only thing i can think of is that i woz only after spending £2.50 on a set of bearings rather than £2500 on a scooter or summat, personally i wud live wiv it now that u know wot the problem is,
cos no matter wich way u look at it its gonna end up coming outa yur pocket 1 way or another, either van rental or a day of work t take it 2 em or sum 1 else/ SORRY but its the bitter sweet truth....... by the way
....................WELCOME DUDE,,, 2 the scene where if u need parts your gonna be left at the end of it feeling like the young boy in the film SCUM,,,,,,,, the potting shed scene,,,,,,,,, ENJOY!
PS.......... im a BLOODY NICE BLOKE really... i just canna help telling the TRUTH and i go on &on &on &on &on, toodlepip

Hi & Welcome Cool --hope u get yr probs sorted soon--yr best bet is to chat with any other local riders to see who they use!
Having said that...as chophodge points out..some dealers offer varying service depending on how often/how much u r gonna spend there!!-& even if u are 'their sort of customer!' Evil or Very Mad

Doh, doh, doh !!! Broke down again today - same problem. The fuel seems to go into a circular black plastic unit between the filter and the carb. God knows what it is, but for some reason the fuel is not getting through it into the Carb and as a result the carb is then starved of fuel. The Rescue Service couldn't work it out neither. Local Piaggeo dealer (Bill Smiths in Chester) initially didn't want to accept it because the garage was full, but afetr some serious grovelling they finally took it in thank goodness. Embarassed

Does anyone know what the black plastic unit might be ??

Could be the safety valve, here`s a pdf parts manual download for the GTS125, page 74 shows the fuel delivery system. http://manuals.wotmeworry.org.uk/Vespa/GTS125/GTS125%20Parts%20Diagram.pdf
